CentraleSupélec ensures the highest level of scientific training for its doctoral student community. This takes place in close collaboration with businesses and industries to facilitate the transition for students to professional life, once their period of study and research has successfully been completed. Aside from their research projects, doctoral students are also invited to complementary educational modules (of 120 hours over three years), which has the aim of achieving more all rounded scientific training.
CentraleSupélec supports and coaches its doctoral students in the transition from doctoral to professional life through interdisciplinary training courses, which are shared among the doctoral colleges. These courses are organised as a professional journey, to give the PhD student more clarity on the professional sectors he or she may join.
Company visits are also offered each year within the framework of the doctoral program (residential seminar of 5 days to prepare for professional orientation) or interdisciplinary training courses.
CentraleSupélec participates in the professional integration education program by providing opportunities for collaborative cross-disciplinary courses within doctoral colleges. These programs are organized in order to allow PhD students to better understand the industries and sectors related to their education programs. Certain programs are certified (CDEFI [Conférence des directeurs des écoles françaises d’ingénieurs (Conference of the Directors of French Engineering Schools)], etc.).
Company visits are offered each year as part of Doctorials (residential five-day seminars designed to prepare PhD students for professional integration) or through cross-disciplinary courses.
Gif-sur-Yvette campus
As of September 2015, doctoral study undertaken on the former Châtenay campus, now on Gif, have been awarded identical doctoral degrees by Université Paris-Saclay. The doctoral college of Université Paris-Saclay brings together 20 doctoral-level thematic federations who work closely with their research laboratories
Since September 2015, the doctoral program at the former Châtenay-Malabry campus and now on Gif-sur-Yvette is evidenced by a single doctoral degree awarded by the Université Paris-Saclay. The Université Paris-Saclay Doctoral College brings together 20 specialized doctoral schools associated with research laboratories.
CentraleSupélec works with five Université Paris-Saclay doctoral schools:
- École Doctorale de Mathématiques Hadamard (EDMH) [Doctoral School of Hadamard Mathematics]
- École Doctorale EOBE [Doctoral School of Electrical, Optical, Biophysics and Engineering]
- École Doctorale INTERFACES [Doctoral School of Interdisciplinary Approaches: Foundations, Applications and Innovations]
- École Doctorale SMEMAG (Sciences Mécaniques et Énergétiques, Matériaux et Géosciences [Doctoral School of Mechanical Sciences and Energy, Materials and Geosciences])
- École Doctorale STIC (Sciences et Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication [Doctoral School of Information and Communications Sciences and Technology])
The decree of 6 August 2006 authorises CentraleSupélec to award the doctoral degree for the Matisse doctoral school within the doctoral college of Université Bretagne Loire and for the EMMA and IAEM doctoral schools of Université de Lorraine in Metz. Today, the doctoral degree of CentraleSupélec is awarded to doctoral students enrolled in all three of these doctoral schools.
Rennes campus
CentraleSupélec participates in the IRT B-Com initiative, specifically in the fields of networks, multimedia and health. As of 1 January 2017, Université Bretagne Loire has offered doctoral training, developed within the Ecole des Docteurs framework.
The Ecole des Docteurs is a network aimed at bringing together eleven regional doctoral schools, defined according to themes and disciplines, and relies on six doctoral colleges to ensure a direct link with doctoral students, research teams and institutions.
Université de Bretagne will award doctorates on the basis of co-accreditation with member or associate institutions. The enrolment of doctoral students will continue to be registered with the institutions authorised to grant doctoral degrees.
CentraleSupélec is fully authorised to award a doctorate and is jointly accredited for the Matisse doctoral school in the fields of Mathematics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Signal, Systems and Electronics and the interfaces of these domains, see the link
CentraleSupélec has also been co-accredited in the new MathSTIC ED since 1 January 2017.
Since the late 1980s, research in Lorraine has been organized according to disciplines, bringing together several higher education institutions and public research organizations.
CentraleSupélec is awards doctoral accreditation for the following doctoral schools:
- EMMA in the fields of Mechanical Energy and Materials
- IAEM in the fields of IT, Automation, Electronics, Electrotechnical Engineering, and Mathematics

International Co-supervision
With a policy of encouraging the mobility of doctoral students and developing international scientific cooperation, we have set up a system of co-supervision; whereby a PhD student can carry out his or her thesis under co-supervision between two institutions, one in France and the other abroad.
The co-supervision is carried out either on the basis of a framework agreement signed between the two institutions, or on the basis of an individual agreement.

In recognition of the European dimension of a doctoral project, Université Paris-Saclay awards a "European Doctorate" award to a PhD candidate who has mobility experience in Europe of at least three months, alongside other criteria.
